Mills Hardware Reviews

Just a good old hardware store just got everything. And it has people working there they can tell you what you need to know period. I've been there four times this week already.

They are a small Home Depot; whatever they have, Mills Hardware too. Good as neighborhood store for the convenience.

What a gem! Mills hardware has it all! I always get lucky and find what i need! Who the heck wants to drive 1hr+ to a big box store in vic! Not me! That's for sure. They have a very good selection of RV stuff and pool and spa chemicals. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable for the most part. Theirs this one lame with the tattoos on his arms who doesn't know s$!@ from shinola. The wonderful ladies have to do all the leg work when he tries to learn how to use the cash drawer. Pathetic. He's the type of guy who would lean his bike against a new garage door and spray paint it red. Uhhhh duuuurrrrr. Get it together dork!

We rented a tractor for 24 hours. We were charged $300.00 for the 24 hour period, plus $350.00 deposit and $90.00 delivery charge. When I reserved the tractor a week prior, I asked about all charges. I was quoted the above. Two days after the tractor was picked up, which they were late in picking it up, I went into the store to receive my deposit back. There was an additional $13.13 charge subtracted from my deposit. I asked what this charge was for. The gentleman, I think his name was Christopher, told me that I went over the 8 hours permitted to use the tractor. I said, that did not make any sense. Either I am renting the tractor for 24 hours or 8 hours. He stated that he asked the employees who delivered the tractor to our house and picked it up if they told me that we could only use the tractor for 8 hours without additional charges and both employees stated they did. My husband and I emphatically deny anyone told us about the 8 hour limit. I asked the gentleman to show me where on the contact it stated that we can only use a tractor for 8 hours even though we are renting it for 24 hours. He could not locate it in the contract. I told him that I was angry. He threw my receipt down on the desk in front of me and I swiped my hand to keep it from hitting me in the face. Then he told me not to throw things. I told him to show me where it is written about the 8 hour rule and I will apologize, close my mouth, and leave the store. He then stated it was a verbal agreement. I lost it! Either it is a written contract or a verbal contract - Not both!! I asked for the owner's name and phone number. I left two messages, the day of the incident and the next day. Guess what? Evidently, the owner does not know how to return phone calls. But she sure trained her people to rip people off!!!!!!

Today, I was let go by Mills Hardware after working there just shy of a Month. While I have no complaints about the staff, most of which are entirely pleasant and helpful. The selection, which doesn't have everything but has enough to manage.Or the prices, which may be higher then the larger chains, but it being closer helps to curb the difference. My issue is with the Management.I have never seen a clearer case of Nepotism in the work place then working at Mills. And while it is understandable that a locally owned business would perhaps have relatives or family working in close proximity. All of the owners children, are Managers. The reason I was hired in the first place, was to replace their son, whom was leaving for another job.But without being given warning, or reason, I was let go, and he was once again working in his capacity in the place that I had just been trained to replace him in.While the reasons sited were all 'At Will', leaving me no legal recourse or action to take.Any who attempt to work at this particular location be warned. Not only do the owners play favorites with their own children. They actively ignore issues regarding equipment requests or repair in favor of cutting corners and saving money over potential safety hazards or worker necessities. They are not receptive to requests made on such basis', and will not hesitate to fire you without warning to make room for their own family members or children, without explaination. If I thought it would do any good? I would be writing this complaint to the better business beurou with a laundry list of complaints, osha violations and safety hazards. However, as it does me no good in the long run. I'll settle for pointing out that the owners are Nepotistic A**holes.

Husband purchased a New Metal Garage Door (T-Handle) Lock for the outside of our garage door. Purchased on 1/31/20. Installed the New T-Handle on 2/3/2020. Went to unlock and open the garage door yesterday morning (2/18/2020) and had difficulty fitting the key that came in the pkg into the T-Handle Lock. After examining the key, the middle portion of key had been broken off and it broke into the lock making it a defective product. Contacted 'Mill's Hardware' in Phelan where purchased and told it could not be returned without the original pkging. Well, who saves original pkging from a product purchased when it's a lock? Asked to speak with the owner of the retailer with no return phone call since the pkging had been tossed into the trash...! Subsequently, my husband went to 'Mill's Hardware' to either see about an exchange or to speak with the owner and told Mill's would not accept the product without the original pkg and owner was not at the retailer. Why wouldn't Mill's accept a straight across exchange for a defective product that was clearly purchased through their rewards program just 2+ weeks prior other than to be difficult and not honor the products they sell? And, why wouldn't the owner return the phone call after leaving a message on her voicemail? Now, we are out the funds purchased for this item and will have to drive into Hesperia or Victorville to purchase another T-Handle Garage Door Lock from another retailer! I'd say... 'That's Very BAD Business Practices' and will not make any future purchases from this Hardware Store. Has anyone else ever been treated rudely and not rcv an exchange due to not having the original packaging for an item purchased that clearly was defective??? I will NEVER recommend this retailer in Phelan to ANYONE. I also am contacting Corporate to inform them that 'True Value- Mill's Hardware' needs to be given training in 'Customer Service Skills'!

Went in to buy some galvanized wire and the female owner was very rude. They had the handicap ramp to the store blocked and I politely said with a smile 'you're really not supposed to block this' then entered the store.I then asked the clerk where the galvanized wire was and she told me the wrong area. The owner came up before I went to the wrong area and asked what I was looking for. I told her and she started walking in another direction saying it's over here. I asked her to just tell me the isle please. She made a broad gesture toward the west side of the store and said over there. I asked another clerk which isle and who she was, they told me. The owner had an attitude and said you didn't seem to want help, sorry for your bad day, etc. I wasn't having a bad day but I was a bit surprised by her behavior.I told them they just lost a sale because of her attitude.I'll do my best from now on to combine my hardware needs with other out of town shopping trips.Between the attitude, poor quality rental equipment and having to wander the store to find stuff it's not worth it. Plus they are a lot more expensive.

The only complqint that I have is the fact that their purchasing department never purchased an out of stock item that they were out of about ten to fifteen months ago.

The yard help leaves a lot to be desired. Try to get a screen fixed there .... It will take duhhhhh 1 to five days duhhhhh. For one screen, now I don't know what DS do now but I would have mentioned that their were customers ahead of me then maybe give a more accurate estimate

My family and I have been shopping there for years. All of their staff is incredibly knowledgeable and can find the answers if they don't know it themselves. They have excellent customer service and have a variety of items that keeps you from making trips to the bigger stores. I highly recommend it!

Great place. Perfect for any improvement projects. Pricing is moderate. Handicap parking is easy to get. Mills Hardware staff is very knowledgeable in most home improvement projects. Its like a little Home Depot. Paint, swamp cooler parts, equipment rental, propane supplies, and just about any tool for yeard work.

Which was nice of them.I'm sure they are board out of their minds back there. They should thank me for taking up 20 min of their time.I buy all my art supplies here. It's a ok joint. They should hire me to fix their sh*tty back yard.

Nice local hardware store with a surprisingly vast selection of product. Sure prices may be higher on certain items. The way I see it, if the price difference is less than 10%, I'll choose to support the local business.

Even though this store is not as well stocked for those hard to find items desert dwellers need as Mountain Hardware in Wrightwood is, I do appreciate it's hardware section very much. It's extensive and having been acquired years back when the stores previous cheapskate owner tried to monopolize the local industry by purchasing the failing H and E franchise it's one of two last holdovers from Anderson. Fortunate enough for Phelan he's gone but unfortunately he left another frustrating trend behind, closed on Sunday. Lucky for us sinners that would rather fix our water pipes when they break, even on Sunday, Mountain is open and just up the hill. Maybe since Anderson is gone, and our community finally growing with new business, Mountain Hardware will see the opportunity and move in to the old empty Rite Aid store.

Old timey place with an amazing variety of stuff. You can pull up next to the lumber or comcrete and a yard guy loads it for you. One critique: they should not allow a busy cashier to answer incoming calls. When the phone rings, It's like they turn their full attention to the guy who cut in front of you

Nice store, very clean and easy to find things with helpful staff. I especially like their Stihl products. I like having them here in our little community, I do enough driving and having some place local that I can get what I need for my home is great.

I took my chain saw in to have the blade sharpened and when I got it back four days later they did not put the chain back on the saw and when I got home I noticed Scorch marks on the blade then when I was putting the chain back on and tried to tighten up the blade then noticed the tension screw was over tightened and they broke the plastic makeing the chain saw useless. So instead of maning up and telling me they broke my saw they took the blade off and left it for me to figure out and when I call in Monday I will bet my bottem doller they will say 'it wasn't like that' 'you have done it' 'it was loke that when you brought it to us' I WILL SPEND THE MONEY IN GAS & GO TO FREAKING LOWS OR HOME DEPOT.
