Took chainsaw that wouldn't start to True Value. Told us it was going to be $46.00 in advance to find out what the problem was. Went back in a few weeks to see what the problem was with the saw. Was told it would be almost $500.00 to fix it. Decided that it was not worth cost to repair because of age of chainsaw. When I picked up chain saw, it was all in parts. Asked if they were going to put it back together? They told me, it would cost me labor to do that. Bought this chainsaw from them, over 20 years ago, and have taken it there for repairs many times. I think for $46.00, and the business we give them, they could of put it back together.

I have always had great service at True Value. Locally owned and operated. I have absolutely found the lumber to be BETTER and LESS expensive than chain store. We have to support these businesses.

Dropped hedge trimmer s off to be sharpened almost 3 weeks ago, kombi to be repaired on the same day and chains to be sharpened 6 weeks ago and non of the above have been accomplished. Never dropping anything off here for repairs again

I give this business 5 stars based on customer service alone. Aren't sure what you need? Their staff can help you. If you ask anyone at the big orange store they are clueless. Recently started seeing yard sale items on the far side....not a good look. Makes it look like the store is close to closing. Replace that with a larger hand tool section or something else.

I love these little stores. Great place to walk in and out with what you need in under 5 minutes. Staff here is always helpful to the point of helping me carry things out to the truck and helping load it. I will always come here and pay the small mark up for the service you get.

Had an automotive key to be cut, sign posted on front door stated they could save you dealer cost getting it there. Having good faith in their advertisement,and my ignorance of not checking first said product cost me over $25 of the dealers. WOW! Did ask manager and he did verify that the charge was correct.Staff was pleasant unless you want to waste your money shop and check cost first! Learn from my lesson.

Had both my log splitter and zero turn mower serviced and repaired in their service area and I couldnt be more pleased with the quality and value of their work. They went above and beyond treating the repair as if it were their own, returning the equipment much cleaner than what I gave it to them. Tried other shops & they were more expensive & less responsive.

The fact that this store survives with a Home Depot just across the street tells you something. It is the personal service and small town feel of this store that make me return. Plus they have a rental department and Home Depot does not. The staff is helpful and knowledgeable. Very different from 'Roam Depot.'

The woman at checkout was very nasty and unfriendly. It turned out that she was one of Home Depots Managers. While I was shopping there they lost power. She came up to the registers and was telling the employees what to do during this time. They got one register to open while the power was out and the woman in charge started ringing customers up. She was extremely rude and nasty to the customers I saw while waiting in line. I decided to take my business down the street to True Value. I would rather pay a dollar more and have personal service with a smile. Bad Employee

I read 2 or 3 reviews and noticed the owner responded to one. From my experiences with Shrewsbury True Value, this seems like an ' of course he would' experience. On my first visit to the store, I was in my truck in the parking lot looking for the place to buy barn siding. Near me was an employee standing in the middle of the lot talking to another on a fork lift. I asked them if I was in their way and if so where I need to go. They said ' oh no, you are in just the right place, WE are here for you,' Then they proceeded to ask what I needed and took me to where the barn siding was stored, promptly and took 100% care of me. Every other trip, I have had nothing but stellar service as well, whether it be for riding mower parts, propane refills or any other need. Thanks very much.

So I went to to the Shrewsbury store and bought a new chain for my chainsaw. When I went to the parts counter the guy at the desk looked it up on the computer and handed me a chain. I brought it home and put it on my saw. When I did my saw kept binding up, so I took the saw to my repair shop to which I was informed I was given the wrong chain. So I called the store and explained what had happened. The man I spoke with told me to bring the chain back and they would take care of it. I had also informed him that I didn't have the receipt and I had thrown the box away ( figuring that I had been given the right chain I threw the box away). So when I got to the store to return it the manager had a fit. He went and pulled up the receipt on the computer and exclaimed ' what am I supposed to do with this chain, it has burrs on it. I can't sell this now.' I explained that I was never asked any detail and honestly didn't really know that there was a difference. I assumed the guy that gave me the chain knew which one to give me. So long story short the manager Brad came back after he found the receipt and told me ' if I was you I would just take the chain and leave, the more I hear about this the more mad I get.' So again I tried explaining to him what had happened at which point he told me 'just take the chain and leave.' So I just left. I will never go there again. I can get my parts elsewhere from now on.

Family-owned, local hardware store. They have a great supply of hardware, gardening supplies and even patio furniture & grills. Employees are friendly and helpful with your DIY projects. We've been coming to this store for years and always come here first - we only head to Home Depot if the hardware store doesn't have what we need. True Value can repair window screens, help you match paint, and they have a nice selection of party rentals incl. games & bounce houses. True Value also supports it local community and non-profit organizations! They are a fabulous member of the SYC community.

I'd give it 4.5 stars if I could, some of the employees are very knowledgeable and helpful (lawn care/plant dept., Paint dept., Lumber/supplies/hardware dept., plumbing dept., I haven't personally experienced their small engine's service dept but I don't know if I ever will. The selection and prices are usually comparable to Home Depot right next to them, I like the the atmosphere and they usually have a Christian radio station playing. My only real issue is the selection of items in general, it's a small business so it is to be expected.
