I like this place.Great selection of anything hardware related that I can think of. Possibly may be the best hardware store in the Sunset District. It is right on par with the other great one in West Portal. Friendly staff generally.

Even though David was with a another customer, he still acknowledged me and made sure I didn't feel ignored. David took the time to really answer my questions without talking down to me or rushing. This resulted in a sale for them that was over $500. Thanks for the great service!

I came to James True Value Hardware angry, frustrated, tired and upset because Lowe's did not carry the parts I needed to connect stove they sold me. Arriving at James True Value Hardware and in my frustration, I was kindly schooled on how to make the connections I needed with a back up plan just in case. All for a few dollars. In which, I appreciate very much. Brings to light the forgotten adage; 'A smart customer is a good customer'.

This is an awesome hardware store, they have everything you need from nuts and bolts,sand paper power tools , quality door hardware, windows , doors, molding's. The employees are friendly and will to help from cutting a key to helping you purchase doors and windows for your remodel project.

The only other place in the area, like Lowe's, that has those drawer racks of one-at-a-time hard to find fasteners in the tradition of Ace down the street. When it comes to those real hardware store amenities, forget Home Depot for that oval head brass 13mm screw.

Home owners beware! The Paramount, wood-framed windows that I spent nearly $6,000 on did NOT pass inspection in Whittier because James Hardware sold me windows that could not meet the city's code for energy specifications. And James Hardware took NO responsibility for this...at all. They simply told me to appeal to the head of the city inspectors and hope for the best.What it comes down to is this: you better know every detail of every code in your city because these guys will NOT make sure that what they order meets those guidelines. And if the product fails inspection, they will blame you for not having told them, blame the inspectors or the state code. As a home owner, trying to do the best I can on a limited budget and with limited knowledge, I had to learn the hard way that you can't expect James Hardware to double check that you are getting what you need before you pay your money.Now I am in the position of either replacing the windows (and paying for the installation of those windows) or finishing a job that will not be certified as having passed inspection by the city, which could affect both my insurance rates and any potential for resale in the future.
