Lost my key fob floating on the river. My insurance would only cover 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee to go to the dealership. These guys came out within 15 min and programmed key. Excellent service! Great price!

Update: Filed a claim with my insurance and had the damages appraised, the total cost to repair is going to be $717.56(attached a photo of the damages appraisal). So crazy that a company can cause $717 in damage and not even apologize for it, but accuse me of making it up/blaming them for prior damages. The customer service at this place is just the absolute worst.Eddy came to get my car unlocked after I accidentally left my keys in it yesterday at Schlitterbahn. We had just gotten there and parked and wanted to just get the keys now instead of waiting till after we were done in the park. He came and struggled with getting it open for a littler bit, but ended up getting to the door handle and opening it that way. The tool he used was a long metal rod with white plastic or rubber coating on it except for the last 6 inches of it, that part was exposed metal with a threaded and point. My husband even commented after he left how the rod was kind of weird and how the end was just exposed threading. He also used the inflatable bag to open the top corner of the door a little bit. We're young and have had a locksmith open our door before and no damage was done, so we didn't even think to check the door right then. Thinking about it now, it would have been good service for him to even suggest we check it out before we signed the receipt, we were in a rush to get into the park and just didn't even think to check for damages, a mistake on our part. The damages and awful customer service is On them though. Later that evening we noticed about 4 different damages. See attached pictures. The corner of my door was permanently bent outward due to the inflatable bag, the edging of the door frame is roughly scratched and the black coating is peeled off, there are deep scratches above the door handle, deep scratches near the lock button, the rubber coating around the door has a rip in it and the plastic frame the coating is attached to has deep scratches right next to the torn rubber spot. we noticed these after their business had closed so I decided to call the next morning. The woman I talked to wasn't rude at first but basically said we signed a 'government' document and am calling the next day telling them about this and that they use metal tools to open the door so damages are possible but I signed the govt doc absolving them of anything. Which frustrated me because she just implied that they can damage your car but clearly won't help if you didn't notice so you went ahead and signed their receipt. So I told her it shouldn't have damaged my car in all those places and that water can actually get in my car now because of the damages they created, and she literally said, a bag won't rip rubber weather strip the metal tool he uses has a rubber tip on the end (which it didn't) and we signed the paper and were fine with it yesterday and are just now calling them about it(implying we made it up or are complaining about previously created damages). So I told her that she just said their tools are metal implying that damages are possible and now she's implying that we're lying. It was $60, I'm not chuffed about paying that and I wouldn't waste my or her time trying to lie to get refunded but since there are so many damages it's frustrating that I have to pay for shotty work and service. She just kept repeating that I signed a govt document and there's nothing she can do. It's kind of ridiculous that they wouldn't want to uphold good customer service and apologize for what happened and offer even a partial refund. She never apologized that they screwed my door up, she implied I was lying and refused to help or apologize because I signed the receipt. If she had been nice and just apologized I would have felt better about still having to pay for this. So, if you use them, check everything thoroughly before signing anything because that's their ticket to worming out of any damage or responsibility they caused.

Clayton was sent by Good Sam Club to unlock our camper. He was in uniform and driving a marked van with proper equipment. He arrived in 20 minutes and had the door open in less than 5 minutes. We later had duplicate keys expertly done by the owner of the company at the office on Landa Street. These folks are professional and proficient. We highly recommend them.

Never go to this place. When it is in their best interest, they will rip you.I brought in an exact sample and ordered a specific cam lock with them. Same lock, different key. They never called me like they said they would, but after a week I called and they said they were in. The locks were not the right ones and I showed them the original. They agreed they were not the right ones, but said to try the ones they got to see if they would fit. They didn't fit, so I took them back and they ordered another set. These came in, were different locks, but again they were not the ones I needed. Again they said try them to see if they would work. I told them that this was a waste of time, but reluctantly I tried them and as expected, they did not work. Meanwhile while in San Antonio I found the correct ones, at half the KD price, and bot them.With receipt in hand I returned to KD with the locks (which were never the ones I ordered and only took them on their offer to 'try them'). They refused to take them back saying 'we don't need any more cam locks'. When I reminded them that they had never provided me with the locks I ordered, they went silent. They then moved some displays aside and showed me the sign that said 'no returns on special orders'. I said I agreed with that policy IF they had ever provided me with what I ordered, which they did not. Again they went silent. After a few minutes of silent treatment while I talked and they ignored me, they repeated several times they give no refunds.My advice is to never go into this store.

My front door lock needed repair. The technician was right on time, friendly and very professional. Completed the job in 30 minutes and the cost was very reasonable. I will definitely use them again if needed in the future. Thanks so much fir the excellent service.

They are crazy expensive! Needed a key programed, they priced me 95.00 with no guarantee. That means if they can't do it. You still pay. Got it done for 50.00. Elsewhere thank you not!

They were fast to arrive and after 5 hours of work, did a really nice job. HOWEVERThey are poor at clearly stating the cost upfront and changed it several times. Didn't relay that there would have been extra charges for processing a credit card. Since we are a place of business, we asked to be invoiced because we require 2 signatures and the lady that handles the invoicing stated very rudely 'most people know you have to pay upon completion of service'. I replied with well I guess not since I assumed we would have been able to invoiced because we are a company and needing locks changed, not an emergency situation. Like I told that lady, I would have called around to other places if they would had disclosed all information upfront. We do not recommend this company unless you are prepared to have your price keep jumping up without notification that it will happen. They just do it. I asked the technician why it increased and he stated he need more parts that were not in the original quote. Lesson learned. You better ask all the right questions or companies like this will take advantage of you.

I accidentally dropped my keys, the cheap plastic case broke apart, the inside chip is missing. Yes I dropped it, I thought giving a small company my $ 200. $300. Helps out our economy but I was wrong. The owner was not helpful at all, no warranty on anything. I paid for my key to be made, they didn't even call me when they had it ready, I called them and they realized that yes it had been sitting there....dont waste your time or money, very rude customer service

This place is great if you want to be ripped off. Called back in March to get prices on getting a key fixed price told over the phone was reasonably. When I showed up to the shop the price had double from what I was originally told. Then was told that it would take them 4 to 5 hours to complete and I would have to have the car towed to the shop. Needless to say I didn't use their services. Found a company that came to the house, had it done in 30 mins for a third of what they quoted would be there starting price point.

I stopped by the NB location this afternoon to have a key made for a mid-90s American SUV (I didn't already have a key). The locksmith who greeted me at the door immediately headed to the parking lot to take a look at my vehicle. About 20 minutes later he had a working key for all doors, I paid the bill which was far less than I had budgeted and I went about my business. It was a pleasant experience and I'll absolutely go back when another locksmith need arises.

Vinny not only made keys for my 1970 Holiday Rambler RV, but also worked on the lock that was malfunctioning. Vinny was able to rework the lock making in function better and explained to me what was keeping it from performing in perfect condition.The staff is very friendly and Vinny is amazing! I drove from smithville to come here, and recommend The Key Depot for all key and lock needs, but especially if you have an older RV!

Update: owner contacted us and rectified the problem and got our key made. He really came through Left our vintage RV lock with them to make a key. Not only did they completely ignore our job and not make the key, when we finally just went in and got the lock back from them it was not functioning as it did when we took it in. Very unprofessional all around. This lock to replace is very expensive - hundreds of dollars. Not sure if it's fixable now. And NO apology just rudeness. I wouldn't darken their doorway again .

EDITThe Key Depot contacted me. They re-ordered the part and fixed my car. I am sincerely happy with them now.I had an emergency situation where I'd lost my keys. I couldn't get in my vehicle or my apartment. I called The Key Depot, explained my situation, and was told they could do that. I was quoted a price of $125.00, which seemed fair enough. The experience went downhill from there. First, they told me they couldn't 'program' the key without the original, which, of course, was lost. They asked me where I had lost the key and I told them. I went back into my apartment, and came out a while later to check and see how it was going. They were walking the field next to the apartment complex looking for my keys. Seems like they couldn't do this after all. In the process of walking the field, my keys were found. I was ecstatic! They put my car door back together and then charged me $179.00. I didn't even mind that considering that I had my keys and would not have found them any other way.What I did mind, though, was getting into my car the next day to go to work and attempting to put down the window. The control console in the door had been broken and it flipped straight up when I tried to use the control. I called the locksmith and they said come in to the office. I did. They said they didn't have the fastener right now to fix it so as a temporary fix they used clear silicone in the area where the console would be held down. This lasted all of maybe a week.I called them about this and was told to return again. This time they told me they had to order a part because they had broken off the part of the console that interlocks with the door. They took my number and my information and have never called me again. I called them a couple of times and was told the part was on order. I have not returned because I'm tired of getting the run around. I knew when they took my info that it was very likely I'd not hear from them again.The actual owner of the business seems to have a problem talking. He never spoke directly, but always had the people working for him speak to me. He isn't deaf or dumb because I heard him talking to his employees. Be careful with this company. You might get what you need for the price you are quoted, but I sure got taken to the cleaners. My car is still broken and they haven't made any additional attempt to fix it.

Their prices seem to be random. I had a key programmed on 4/3/19 and the price was $64.95. I had another key for the same vehicle programmed on 5/17/19 and the price had mysteriously jumped to $78.43. Same vehicle, same key, less than 1 minute worth of work.

I had a gate key made and the older gentleman was very nice however the key didn't fit was too thick so went back the next day and had to deal with the two guys that aren't very customer friendly and instead of cutting a new key they grinded the old one and gave it back. Guess what still doesn't work. Now I'm still with out a gate key. Probably gonna have to buy another one.

Took motorcycle ignition and tank into key depot to have keys made. They quoted me 2 days and $40-60. A week later I called to check status. The phone operator didn't know if it was done and refused to check. The next day I called and was told the technician was having problems and needed a couple more days. I picked up both forementioned items and took them to village locksmith in universal city. They provided two keys in a matter of 20 minutes for $27. Never again will I give business to key depot.

As for those posting about buying keys elsewhere and not being able to get them cut, let's grow up and be real. Do you take your own toppings into a pizza place and ask them to make you a pizza. Same concept... Or would you take drinks into a bar and ask them to serve it to you, again same thing. Key depot gets five stars from me...

I created this account just to make sure that nobody has to endure what myself and children went through when we relied on The Key Depot after losing our keys in the River.
