Please take out time to read this review; the incident detailed below occurred (and was written) on April 30, 2020.Any company especially small businesses like the Security Shop, should be grateful for customers that are supporting their businesses during this very difficult times of navigating through the seriousness and unknowns of COVID-19. However, my experience with the locksmith technician that was dispatched for a rekeying job/service that I ordered, was beyond less than desirable. From my initial contact with this person, it was obvious that the locksmith was not friendly or good-natured from the outset. I could accept that, as the purpose of the visit wasn't a social one, but to get a much needed service done and completed. Prior to my contact with the technician, I had spoken at length the company's dispatcher and provided specific details about the scope of work and its requirements. As such, we were able to arrive at an agreed upon price for the service...over-priced might I add by over nearly $100 (from other quotes that I received for the same job), but I agreed to it nonetheless, as they were the only option available at the time. After the locksmith completed the service, I received an invoice that was over by $150 from the quote that the dispather and I had originally discussed. The tech provided a flimsy excuse for the higher cost and become angry at me for not just accepting it.I made it clear to him, that if he realized the scope of work was different upon arrival, why wasn't this discussed with me and/or at least reported back to home office before any of the work was started. Again, another weak excuse along with more belligerence.So, I called the office back to express my disagreement with the final bill that I received and it's unfairness to say the least, to me as a customer.While I was on the phone with company, I had to demand that tech leave the premises because now his belligerence towards me had escalated. However, he refused to leave the new keys behind and in effect locked me out of my property. At this point, I'm furious because this is situation had now turned into something that no customer should ever have to bear from any company as a customer...utter disrespect and humiliation. I spoke with management at the company, and they agreed to honor the original price that was quoted and they had to order the locksmith to bring the keys back to my property, as again I was locked out of my own property by this person.While the manager attempted to apologize for the incident that his employee created at my property, the one thing that bothered me the most from the conversation was the lousy excuse that he made for the employee's behavior, 'he's dealing with the whole COVID thing'. And I responded, 'Whom of us isn't? We're all dealing with how this pandemic is impacting our lives on both personal and business levels, not just your company or your employee and any company that is still receiving business at this time particular, should not be treating customers disrespectly,.of which he agreed with. So, I could not let much time pass without writing this review. Needless to say, I will never contact this company again for any locksmith services in the future.I could accept the over-pricing, for my greater good, in terms of getting the job done in the time that I needed it to be completed, but will never accept the disdainful and beligerent behavior that was displayed by their employee.And might I, (something that I might have otherwise overlooked), the locksmith left the nastiest fingerprints on all of doors that were serviced, of which I had to clean-off.But most importantly, I don't want another person to ever encounter what I experienced with the Security Shop or any other company for that matter, especially during these times in particular. When people display such negative behavior as the locksmith displayed while at work...let's just say this experience will be one that won't be forgotten and I'm changed by it.

I wouldnt use these guys if they gave their service away for free. They installed a new deadbolt and lock for me a couple months ago that has completely fallen apart and become operational. Well it bends every key you put into it if you consider it a win. Service, prices and clearly the installation was terrible. Look elsewhere

Bought a lock from these people that fell apart. I could not lock my front door. Store Manager and employees were far more interested in making money off my emergency than having any empathy with the customer. Awful Customer Service.

I had a great experience at Security Shop. I had to have a 'no duplicate' key copied and they were quick, professional and did a great job. Bruce took care of me and he assured me that if they didn't fit, to come back, but they work great. Highly recommend them!

Quick, professional service with skilled employees. The car key they cut was initially a little tight in the lock, and they came outside to the car to fix the problem. A couple quick swipes with a file, and the new key works perfectly. Very pleased.

I recently moved. I went to get a copy of my key made 3 times. I was told by all 3 places that the only place that would probably be able to make this copy was the Security Shop (two of the prior stores simply referred to it as 2951 N Clark). Sure enough, they had it. If you need an obscure key made in Chicago, don't waste your time going anywhere else.
