Phoenixville Hardware Reviews

Great family owned business. This hardware store has most everything you need, and if not in stock or on the shelf they can order it for you. It is close to where I work which makes it super convenient. And, the employees are all helpful and knowledgeable. Dont be fooled, the young blonde woman knows her stuff!

We purchased two cans of the same color paint at Phoenixvilles True Value. When we painted at home the two colors were not the same. When we went back to the store they stated the colors were clearly the same and there was no issue to rectify. Very disappointed in their customer service and ability to admit a mistake in their paint mixing process. Attached are two pictures. One shows the paint on the wall. Both colors are dried, they clearly do not match. The other picture is of the lids to each can. This picture was taken in store showing them that the colors did not match. At the store they claimed it was simply the lighting and not actually a mismatch I would not recommend purchasing your paint at this store. Awful service

Paid for two of the same color of paint but upon opening both cans they were not the same shade. When I brought both cans back to show them they were not the same color, I was told thats impossible. I then had to wait while the employee opened both cans and proved to me that they were the same by putting some of each color onto a wooden paint stick. He then used a hair dryer on the paint to help it set. Dont buy paint from here unless you like wasting money. Pictures of both lids included.

It's amazing how this small hardware store has practically everything you need for your home needs. And the staff is very helpful.

This place is small, but they always come thru with a good quantity of masonry and concrete related professional tools (better than anybody in town actually). If something isn't in stock they always order it. Customer Service isnt bad and staff is friendly. True Value blows Ace way far out the water

If you like being followed around the store and hearing the same blonde haired female manager tell someone to 'n-rig' something.c'mon down to your local hardware store.I don't understand how people like that still exist let alone use that language so casually. I have been in this store a dozen times and never had a problem till recently. Lost a customer for life.

Employees very helpful. And they even offered me popcorn. I hope the smaller hardware store like this can survive the big guys.

[edit. I've upped my ratings because other than the special order snafu, service has been great and they are dog friendly]I hate to dump on a store, but they told me my special order for a fairly common plumbing item would be in 'on Monday', 3 days later I'm still waiting... Otherwise I like the smaller store and it does have a decent well organized hardware section (nuts, screws, bolts etc...)

I used to like buying items there. I liked the owner. I just bought a part that is defective. They would not replace it because I used it. Yeah, I installed it and it did not work properly. The part ended up dirty and they said they could not resell it. Yeah, you should not resell a defective part. I told them to send it back to the manufacture--no dice. They said they do not send items back. I will not return to their store.

The owner Rich waited on me and gave exceptional service. I also bought a keyed lockset from him to replace a Home Depot Kwikset set. The one he sold me was much higher quality than the one that came from HD. He is very knowledgeable and I will go back. Like a real hardware store not a box store. BIG DIFFERENCE !!

Nice Store. Well stocked and very friendly knowledgeable staff, family owned. A little pricey for some stuff but you pay for convenience. Definitely way better than the other hardware store in town which isn't saying much.

The staff are friendly, but the owner is irresponsible and neglectful. Do not get anything repaired here.I left a broken window with the owner who assured me I'd have it repaired and returned to me in 2 weeks (before the season would turn cold). I like the store (I was a frequent customer) and want to support local businesses, so I happily agreed. Three weeks later I never received a phone call, so I went to the shop. There I found out from one of his employees that they were unable to perform the repair on sight, so they had sent it to another shop to be repaired. Had they bothered to reach out to me before doing this I would have taken it elsewhere myself. Sadly, they left me out of that decision.Another 2 weeks go by and I hear nothing from the store, so I again drive there to find out what's going on. By this point, the back of my house is consistently 20 colder than the front of my house thanks to the lack of a window. I'm told by an employee that the window was STILL waiting for repair at the other shop and that they'd call me as soon as it was ready. Again, that call never came. This time, I call the owner's cell and leave a message asking that my window be returned to me. He never returned my call. After another 2 weeks I call again, this time insisting I have my window returned with or without a repair. I'm told that the shop they'd sent it to was unable to perform the repair and in another week it would be returned to me still broken. I ask to speak to the owner, and after a few minutes go by the same employee corrects themselves, saying that, in fact, the window HAD been repaired and it had been sitting around the shop for a FEW WEEKS. This meant the last time I'd visited the shop to inquire about the window it had been there, ready to go. The employees couldn't have known this thanks to the owner who single-handedly runs the repairs business refuses to share project updates with his employees. Thanks to their horrible record keeping and the owners incredible lack of responsibility, discipline, etiquette, and common sense, my 2 week window repair turned into almost 2 months of waiting and frustration, doubling my heating bill for half my house and irreparably damaging the reputation of what otherwise is a great little local hardware store.Need nails or gardening supplies quickly? Want a smaller hardware store with very friendly and helpful employees? This place is great for all of this! Just do. Not. Get. Something. Repaired. Here. Working with the owner should be avoided.

Fantastic local hardware store. They are the complete opposite of what Sears hardware use to be before they closed. The staff and owner, who is there quite often when I go, are extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Some of the pricing is higher than the big box stores, but that is to be expected when dealing with a local business that truly appreciates your patronage. One time when they didn't stock and item I needed, the owner pulled out some catalogs and ordered the item for me.I won't say I use them for everything, but I use them as often as I can. I absolutely love having such a great hardware store local that appreciates my business. Thanks guys!

Always helpful service, and willing to go the extra mile for a customer such as shaking old paint purchased elsewhere or cutting a piece of old plexiglass.Prices are very competitive on most items, so I can forgo the longer trip to Lowe's or Home Depot.

Failure to accurately cut keys. When I called to follow up I was told that I was wrong and that the keys were cut to the same length. (1/2 inch) difference. I was not calling for refund or exchange. Intended to improve next customers exsperience, but was not taken seriously. Bottom line- Do not get keys cut here, other services have been fine.

I usually try and support my small local businesses, but after today I will not return to this store. I went to return an outside outlet cover since it did not work for our intended location. I brought everything that came with it, except the flimsy plastic wrap that tore into pieces when I opened it. I walked in, with my two young children, who happily played with the kids grocery cart. I saw a women on the phone, who worked there, down the aisle. She saw me, but didn't acknowledge me at all. A minute later she came to the front and called someone up to help me, but then got off the phone and helped me a moment later. I explained the situation and provided product and receipt. She looked mad that I was returning it, and exhaled loudly a couple of time. At this point I'm already feeling very uncomfortable, and then she informed me in the future I needed to provide all the wrapping. I explained that it was just like saran wrap, but she said she needed it to keep the product together( How she would use three little pieces of plastic wrap is beyond me) and she's just 'telling me for next time'. I informed her there would not be a next time. I recall this store being a small family business and had always dealt with friendly people in the past. I wondered if they were under knew management, so I asked who the owner was. 'My dad, Richard?' she asked coolly. I confirmed yes. When I asked for his last name she asked why. Really? She should have just told me and dropped the attitude. I could care less if you are the daughter of the owner, but it sure is interesting that she treats customers like that. She was pretentious, and her unfriendly demeanor and haughty attitude was uncalled for. I surely hope this is not how Richard would want his customers treated. Yes, returns are frustrating and sometimes difficult to handle, but that's how business is. The competitions is fierce and True Value's prices can't compete with other big stores, so I'd think you'd need to step up the customer service to keep returning customers. For know, I'll drive to the hardware store in Paoli.
