This True Value lives up to its name. I have been a typical Amazon and big box shopper for hardware store things, but since COVID, I decided to shop local and avoid masses. What a gem I found in True Value Smithfield! This place has everything I appreciate, local business , excellent customer service, and wide product selection thats organized. I have been three times in the last few weeks and each time I come home raving to my wife about how all businesses should operate this well! Youve won my business and I highly recommend to anyone else within distance! Compliments to the management and staff, amazing job!

I went to this hardware store on a recommendation. I was truly dissatisfied and disappointed. All I needed was 1 small pipe to fix an air compressor. Not familiar with the store I asked for help. The girl didnt know so pointed to another worker. I asked where I could find the part? He looked at me, turned around and walked away. I began my search in the store. I finally found it. It was then that same fella rounded the end of the isle and said yeah what you looking for.... I told him Im fine. He then took the broken part out of my hand!! He found the part I needed, and I was able to make the repair. Will I be back?? What do you think. Heres the kicker. My daughter was with me. On the way home she asked why was that man so unhelpful and cross?? My response was he has no accountability and can act like that without anybody saying anything to him Im done with true value. I have my own shop and am always looking for good stores to do business with. This will not be one of them.

My thoughts:What's great:Staff incredibly friendly and helpful, always someone to ask questionsClosest full service hardware store to Smithfield (Lowe's and Home Depot are 25-30 minutes from downtown Smithfield)Large hardware store, thus huge selectionGreat paint selections (has full benjamin moore line and true value line)USPS and packaging location built in and in the backSupporting your local town hardware store!Why you might go somewhere else:Prices slightly more expensive than Lowe's or Home Depot. If you are purchasing >$150-200 worth of hardware, may be more cost effective to drive and spend the gas to get to Lowe's or Home DepotWould recommend to anyone in the area!

Very clean, well kept and customer friendly True Value. Weve been going to True Value for a few years now after moving to the area. They always seem to have what we need in a pinch. Their customer service is excellent, with someone on the floor always willing to help you find what you need or answer your questions.Steve A. helped me particularly today, when my husband was unable to go with me to get a few carriage bolts and nuts that I needed for my business. Steve took the time to match up what I needed, measure them, and make sure all the nuts aligned with the thread on the bolt. He went above and beyond to make sure I was taken care of and got what I needed.Thank you Steve and True Value for great customer service, that sometimes these days is hard to find!

This is a great hardware store that carries quality merchandise. The fastener inventory is way better than Lowe's and Home Depot . When I need stainless steel that doesn't rust , screws that won't snap off etc I go to this store even though it is about thirty miles from my house. Also the staff knows their stuff and is always eager to help.

Great hardware store that has many items (fasteners, plumbing and electrical) for individual sale. You don't have to buy a big bubble pack of screws when you need just one cause to dropped in on the garage floor then kicked it under your work bench. That's what I like about Smithfield True Value (STV).

Smithfield True Value makes me smile because the owners make it possible for all of us to stay right here in town when we need basic hardware supplies! They do a great job of stocking the store, and go out of their way to help customers. They have employed many young people in town over the years, giving so many their first job, and great experience in learning to work with the public. Thank you, True Value, for making us SMILE when we go to the local hardware store, and for keeping our dollars local.

The only reason why I didn't put 5 stars is because True value is much more expensive than any other hardware stores. Otherwise, everyone at the store has always been very helpful and extremely nice. Also for he size it has large selections.

I have found their pricing competitive with Lowe's. I have never had any negative encounters with staff, in fact they have been repetitively helpful in special ordering material I have needed. I hope in the future they will sell lumber as there are no lumber outlets close by.

This store is not bad at all! I'm not sure WHO or WHY those that left negative reviews did, but I assure you they are incorrect! This is a 'locals-owned' franchise that is surprisingly similar to how you would expect a one of a kind small business to treat its customers. I will continue to shop here! You're usually greated when you walk in, if they're not slammed, and if you don't need any help you're left alone. Very professional and respectful! I had to leave this review after reading the ridiculous negative feedback while I was checking their hours of operation. Please find out for yourself how wrong these negative reviews just happen to be!

Senior staff is always ready to help. Younger staff probably needs some training and encouragement. Locally owned, with a desire to meet the needs of the community. Negative reviews ought to be more specific, simply saying someone is rude doesn't explain the negative experience for readers. Sometimes rude is a response to rude! Not good but understandable.

I've never had anything but good experiences shopping here. Yes, if you don't mind driving 30 minutes (if you're lucky!) across a 5 mile bridge and through heavy traffic, then Lowes has a larger selection of 'stuff'. BUT, if you have a specific job to do or problem to fix, you will find everything you need right here, and at a competitive price. From tools to plumbing parts to lawn and garden to paint and even household supplies, it's all available here without having to leave Smithfield. And now that they sell lumber, True Value is truly a one stop shopping experience. The staff are always polite and helpful. Not always smiling from ear to ear, but then neither am I (ever). Maybe it's me, but I don't go to a store or a restaurant to make friends, I go to buy something I need or get a meal. I don't need to know my waiters name nor do I care if the person helping me find the part I need to fix a sink is all smiles and chuckles. If things are done in a timely manner and they are polite and bring me the food I order or I leave the store with what I need, I consider that to be excellent service. And excellent service is exactly what this establishment delivers. An extra bonus is their post office counter in the back; there's no need to go out of your way to downtown Smithfield with its cute but crappy streets and vintage lack of parking when you need to mail a package. From stamps to packing materials, to Priority or Express Mail, anything you can do at Smithfield's archaic main post office can be done here without climbing steps or waiting in a long line.A final note about the anonymous negative reviews is simply a suggestion that you consider the source. People who are afraid to even leave a fake name are likely nothing but unhappy people with no life, and their comments should be given little weight. People who use their names generally leave honest reviews, good or bad, but anonymous reviewers choose to be anonymous for a reason...
